PROJECT SUMMARY

INSTALLATION OF 9 TEST PILES AT 3 LOCATIONS AT WATER DEPTHS OF UP TO 40 M

When Type 183 HLV Lone was engaged in a Taiwanese offshore pile load test project for an offshore wind farm, it took another four vessels to mobilise her. This project took more than our best efforts and engineering capabilities – it also required ingenuity and a significant crane modification to achieve our goal. HLV Lone was hired to perform pile installation and testing work as part of the pre-piling phase of the project.

To realize the project, we launched a substantial preparation phase: A Fly-Jib extension was designed, manufactured, and installed, providing up to 23 m of extra jib length. Furthermore, temporary living quarters (TLQs) and additional lifeboats to house up to 100 people that would be onboard during the project were installed and HLV Lone had to change its certification from a cargo vessel to become a special purpose ship (SPS).
