LOAD AND DISCHARGE OF TOWER SECTIONS

Our heavy lift vessels are perfectly suited for transporting long and heavy items such as blades, tower sections, monopiles, hubs and nacelles. The ability to load and discharge using each ship’s own gear lets us feed ports that lack shore cranes. Several Type 161 A and Type 176 vessels were involved in the shipment of 56 tower sections from Taicang, China to Eemshaven, the Netherlands. The tower sections did weigh up to 164 t each, measuring up to 35.82 x 5.97 x 6.35 m. It took five shipments in total to safely transport all cargo pieces to their destination. Extra wide belt slings were used to securely load and discharge the tower sections and high technical requirements needed to be fulfilled to ensure safe and efficient operations.
